The Prime Minister of Belgium, Charles Michel, as well as the President and CEO of Volvo Cars, Håkan Samuelsson, attended the ceremony marking the start of production of the new model.

As part of the preparations for the start of production of the XC40 model, the assembly hall area of the plant was increased by 8,000 m2, and the production site itself was converted into a global export center for cars built on the CMA platform.
The plant in Ghent has been operating since 1965. Until recently, it produced the popular first-generation XC60 crossover, as well as the V40 and V40 Cross Country hatchbacks, the S60 sedan, and the V60 wagon.
