A jury of 58 journalists representing 30 different countries scored the environmental friendliness, efficiency, and dynamic capabilities of powertrains. The competition results did not bring any particular surprises – the vast majority of laureates defended their last year's titles.
The main prize in the form of the honorary title "International Engine of the Year" was again awarded to the 670-horsepower turbocharged V8 from the Ferrari 488 GTB. In addition to winning the top nomination, the Italian powertrain also again took first place in the "Best Performance Engine" category.
The second place went to last year's "bronze medalist" – the three-liter turbocharged Porsche engine, which pushed the three-cylinder 1.5 engine from the hybrid sports car BMW i8 to third place.

The best newcomer was recognized as the hybrid powertrain from the Honda NSX sports car, combining a 3.5-liter gasoline V6 and an electric motor.
The "green" engine of the year was once again recognized as the powertrain of Tesla electric cars.
The only "displacement" category with a new winner is the nomination "From 1.8 to 2.0 liters," in which the award passed from the two-liter turbocharged Mercedes-Benz engine to the "boxer" engine from Porsche with a similar displacement, used in the Boxster/Cayman models.
In the other categories, the winners did not change: the one-liter Ford turbo engine (up to 1 liter), the 1.2-liter three-cylinder turbo engine from PSA Peugeot Citroen (from 1 to 1.4 liters), the 2.5-liter five-cylinder turbo engine from Audi (2-2.5 liters), and the 740-horsepower V12 6.3 liters from the Ferrari F12 (over 4 liters).
