The race, held as part of the World of Speed event, featured a specially prepared modification of the "Beetle" with the immodest name LSR (Land Speed Record). The car was driven by Preston Lerner, editor of the authoritative publication Automobile.

The creation of the most "charged" version was handled by THR Manufacturing. Under the hood was a two-liter turbo engine, almost completely reassembled by THR specialists. As a result, 550 hp and 570 Nm of torque were "extracted" from the engine.

The Volkswagen Beetle LSR also received special wheels, a lowered and retuned suspension, and even braking parachutes. All "unnecessary" equipment was removed from the cabin, replaced with a roll cage and a fire suppression system.
