Yes, according to the used car sales website autoscout24.de, for the first time in Germany the average price of a used car has crossed the 23,000 euro mark. To be precise, in August a figure of 23,196 euros was recorded – 250 euros higher than the July value. And compared to last year, the increase was a whopping 3,000 euros.

Initially (since spring 2020), the reason for the rise in price of used cars was the shortage of new cars due to factory closures (due to the pandemic) and the reluctance to spend on a car from the showroom in an era of economic uncertainty. Then another problem appeared that they cannot solve to this day – the global shortage of semiconductors. It also affected car production and sales.
Thus, according to the industry association ACEA, the number of new car registrations in Europe fell by 18% in August and by 24% in July compared to the same period last year. This is the worst indicator since 2013. Among the largest automakers last month, sales at VW Group decreased by 14%, at Stellantis (formerly PSA and FCA concerns) – by 29%, and at Renault – by 23%. Daimler fell by 38%, BMW by 18%. The shortage of electronic components has already forced many manufacturers to temporarily stop production, and no one can really say when the problem will be overcome.
