The German Automobile Trust (Deutsche Automobil Treuhand, DAT) came to these conclusions in its study.
Thus, according to DAT data, if in February 2020 the residual value of an average three-year-old electric car, like its gasoline counterpart, was 56% of the price of a new car, now it has dropped to 51%. At the same time, fuel models remained at the same 56%.
Experts note that in the budget electric car segment, the decline is even more dramatic.

The reason for this dynamics is simple: the technological progress of electric cars and the expansion of the model range. With each new generation of EVs, the market supply becomes more diverse, while the previous generation automatically becomes outdated.
That is, at this stage, it is more profitable to buy a used electric car than a gasoline or diesel used car. However, one should not forget that electric cars are prone to battery degradation (especially if the car was improperly used), which greatly reduces their range.
By the way, although this information is relevant for Germany, it is also useful for us, since the German market has always remained the main one in Europe and dictated trends.
