Volkswagen's head of research and development, Frank Welsch, told Autocar about the company's plans.

The top manager noted that demand for crossovers remains consistently high, but the brand's model range already has enough such cars. "There is no need to expand the lineup with ten more crossovers — the priority should be the release of models that will become sales leaders," Welsch emphasized.

In addition, Volkswagen intends to reduce the number of cars built on the MQB modular architecture. Which specific cars will be discontinued is not yet specified, but according to British observers, the Arteon, Touran, and Passat could be cut.

The German automaker also plans to focus on electrifying its model range, increasing the production of electric vehicles within the I.D. family.
