Last month, almost all key European Union car markets showed positive dynamics. The exceptions were the United Kingdom, where sales fell by 2.8%, and Italy with a decline of 1.4%. At the same time, Spain recorded double-digit growth — plus 13.0%. The German and French markets also showed confident increases: by 7.4% and 4.3%, respectively.

The leader in car sales volume in Europe remains Germany — 261,749 passenger cars were sold there in a month.

Italy took the second position: residents of this country purchased 181,734 cars in February.

France closes the top three, with 168,893 cars sold.

Among European automakers, VW Group traditionally holds the first place. The concern sold 272,758 cars in EU markets, which is 9.4% more compared to February last year.

PSA Group takes the second place with 193,738 cars sold. This result exceeds the sales volume for February 2017 by 67.6%.

The third in the number of cars sold was the Renault Group alliance — 120,024 units, an increase of 6.8%.

Overall, in the first two months of 2018, 2,378,965 new passenger cars were registered in the European Union countries — this is 5.8% more than in the same period last year. Although growth rates are beginning to slow in some markets, in Spain (+16.4%), Germany (+9.5%) and France (+3.4%) demand for new passenger cars continues to grow steadily.
