China has confirmed its status as a leading automotive power: in 2017, 24.8 million passenger cars rolled off its assembly lines. Compared to the previous year, production in the PRC increased by 1.6 percent.
Japan takes second place with 8.3 million cars. The Japanese automotive industry increased its passenger car output by six percent.
Germany rounds out the top three, having produced 5.6 million passenger cars. However, the German auto industry reduced its volumes by almost two percent.
India jumped straight to fourth place, having been only sixth a year earlier. Indian enterprises produced 3.9 million cars — 6.6 percent more than in 2016.
South Korea closes the top five largest passenger car producers for 2017 with a volume of 3.7 million units, which is 3.2 percent less than a year earlier.
The American auto industry, having lost more than 22 percent of its volumes, left the top five and moved from fourth to sixth place, producing just over three million passenger cars.
In Ukraine, 7.3 thousand passenger cars were produced last year — 68 percent more than in 2016. Among the 48 countries that assembled passenger cars in 2017, only Belarus, Venezuela, and Bangladesh had worse results.
