According to OICA data, global vehicle production reached at least 48 million units in the first six months of 2017 (some countries do not provide data on heavy truck output). Compared to the same period last year, global vehicle production increased by 2.9%.

Passenger cars continue to hold the largest share in the global automotive industry: over 36 million units were produced from January to June. Compared to the result a year ago, output in this segment grew by 2.7 percent.

China remains the leader in passenger car production. Chinese enterprises produced 11.5 million passenger cars in the first six months, which is 3.2% more than a year earlier.

Japan holds the second position with a growth of 9% compared to the first half of 2016, producing 4.1 million passenger cars.

Despite a 3.5% decline in output, the third position remains with the German automotive industry. Germany produced 2.9 million passenger cars in six months.

South Korea, which lost 2% compared to its own result a year ago, managed to stay in the top five, ranking fourth in the global rating with 1 million 960 thousand cars.

India closes the top five, with its factories producing 1 million 943 thousand passenger cars in six months.
