The number of registrations jumped by 38.0% compared to the same months last year. Within the European Union, 204,502 cars with unconventional engines were sold, which equals 5.1% of all passenger cars sold between April and June 2017. The share of electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids (ECV) reached 1.2% of the total sales volume.

Particularly noticeable growth was seen in hybrids (HEV) and ECV — by 61.1% and 45.8%, respectively. In the second quarter of this year, the number of new cars running on propane or natural gas also increased (+3.3%), with the main driver being demand for cars with liquefied gas, which rose by 23.7%.

All five key markets showed double-digit growth, which largely ensured the positive dynamics for the EU as a whole. The best performance was in Germany and Spain, with growth of 91.9% and 80.7%, respectively. More modest but still confident growth was seen in France (+28.6%), the UK (+24.4%), and Italy (+18.1%).
