Vehicle imports grew by a third year-on-year, while foreign currency spending on their purchase jumped by 74 percent.
The lion's share of this volume was passenger cars — 87,776 units were imported, and in dollar terms this batch amounted to $1 billion 442 million. Moreover, over half of all foreign passenger cars last year came to Ukraine from five countries: Germany accounted for 20%, Japan — 13%, France and the USA — 7% each, Romania — 6%.
Compared to 2015, imports of passenger cars grew by 41%, and the average customs price of one car rose by $3.2 thousand, reaching $16.4 thousand.
At the same time, although conditions for importing used cars became more favorable, their share in imports decreased from 39% in 2015 to 25% last year.
Of the 22.3 thousand imported used passenger cars, almost all — about 91% — came from EU countries, and their average customs value was $7.8 thousand per unit.
As for new cars, their imports grew by 72% — to 65.5 thousand units. Importers paid $1 billion 266 million for these cars.
The main supplier of new cars at the end of the year was Japan — 11,236 passenger cars came from there to the Ukrainian market. Germany took second place with 6,883 cars. The top three was closed by the USA, which shipped 5,699 new cars. Fourth place remained with Romania — 5,422 cars. The top five largest exporters was closed by Slovakia, which sent 4,572 cars to Ukraine.
