Such conclusions suggest themselves after reviewing the draft law proposing an increase in the excise tax on fuel. The document provides for a 13% increase in the excise tax on petroleum products, which will naturally affect the retail price of gasoline.
It is noteworthy that at all stages of discussion of the state budget for 2016, the Ministry of Finance did not mention a possible revision of excise rates on fuel, but at the last moment the department changed its position. In other words, even taking into account the significant drop in oil prices and the stabilization of the hryvnia exchange rate, there is no reason to expect a decrease in prices — movement is possible only upward.
By the way, if this draft law were rejected, already in January the price of gasoline could decrease by 50 kopecks per liter, and diesel fuel — by 1 hryvnia. But such a scenario seems unlikely.
