Asked by Vladimir:
Kyiv, intersection of Melnikova and Glubochitskaya streets (near the Kyivska Rus cinema).

I am driving in the left lane along Melnikova street towards Artema street. On Melnikova there are two lanes in one direction; after the intersection Artema street begins and there are already three lanes in one direction. I need to get into the middle lane on Artema street.

Should I yield to cars that are driving on Melnikova in the right lane and, like me, are going to drive in the middle lane (on Artema street) after passing the intersection?

Experts of the Karat driving school answer:
You should not yield, because you continue driving in your lane.
Drivers who are driving in the right lane of Melnikova street can continue driving in their lane (that is, in the right lane of Artema street), or perform a lane change to the middle lane. When changing lanes, according to clause 10.3 of the Ukrainian Traffic Rules, the driver must yield to vehicles moving in the same direction in the lane to which he intends to change.

To summarize: In this case, the priority is for the car entering the intersection from the left lane.
