We are talking about the fact that from October 1 to May 1, outside populated areas, during the day you need to drive with daytime running lights or low beam headlights on. Parking lights or fog lights are not suitable as a replacement. This requirement is set out in clause 9.8 of the traffic rules and remains in force even during martial law.

The logic is clear — road safety. In autumn and winter, the daylight hours are shorter, and there are more frequent fogs and precipitation. A car with its lights on is much better visible, which helps reduce the number of accidents.

Do not forget about responsibility either. There is no direct fine for this violation — it falls under Article 125 of the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offenses, that is, a warning or a small penalty. However, sometimes patrol officers qualify such cases differently, drawing up a report under Part 2 of Article 122 of the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offenses, where the penalty amount is from 425 to 510 hryvnias.

So, already from the first day of October, drivers should readjust and turn on the lights not only in the dark, but also during the day.
