On June 18, the people's deputies voted for draft law No. 13134. According to MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak, an amendment was introduced to the document that actually postponed the application of penalties for the absence of an alcohol component in fuel. Thus, until January 1, 2026, gas stations will not be held liable. After the specified date, for every thousand liters of non-compliant fuel, a fine of UAH 21,000 will have to be paid.
It is worth mentioning that from May 1, 2025, norms requiring the addition of bioethanol to gasoline came into effect in our country. An exception was made only for A-98 fuel, as well as for fuel used for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the State Reserve.
Government officials explain the introduction of such rules by the intention to improve the environment, reduce dependence on imports, and support domestic alcohol producers. This is also a step towards the implementation of the European Directive 2009/28/EC, which provides for an increase in the share of renewable energy sources in the overall balance.
Thus, car owners and gas station owners have received a little more time to get used to the new requirements. However, already from 2026, neglecting the rules on bioethanol will be not just a violation, but also a serious blow to the budget.
