Given the current circumstances, such an analysis will be interesting both for electric car drivers and for those who remain loyal to internal combustion engines. Because in the summer, many Ukrainians were looking at electric cars and even bought them, and now some seriously doubt whether it was worth doing and whether it is advisable to continue using such transport.
Is it really possible to save money by driving an electric car, and how to handle it in the event of a power outage — let's consider a specific example. We are talking about calculations of the cost of charging the most affordable electric car BYD E2 (its range is 400 km) from a generator.

So, here are the figures prepared by the company 4Kolesa, which is engaged in importing new electric cars from China to Ukraine:
Quite recently, such an option seemed nonsense, but now everything has changed. The 4Kolesa car dealership decided to demonstrate clearly that this is not only not absurd, but also profitable. Let's take the BYD E2 model for calculation — it is currently sold for $19,000. And this is the price for a new car with zero mileage.
Now let's move on to the calculations. We take as a basis a gasoline generator with a power of 7 kilowatts. On average, such a unit consumes 2.45 liters of fuel per hour of continuous operation. Let's round it up to 2.5 l/h.
The BYD E2 has a battery of 43.2 kWh. So, to charge it from a generator, it will take approximately 7.5–8 hours and about 20 liters of fuel (in hryvnia equivalent — 1050 UAH).
If we take into account the range of 401 km, we get the following result:
100 kilometers of travel ≈ 262 UAH or 5 (!) liters of A-95 gasoline
