Owners of cars with foreign registration were granted an additional three-month period to decide on customs clearance and registration of their vehicles.
The law, which introduces amendments to a number of legislative acts of Ukraine and provides for the postponement of the application of penalties for violations during the import of vehicles, will come into force on the day following its official publication.
The change in excise policy regarding used foreign cars and the introduction of a transition period for the clearance of vehicles imported under transit or temporary schemes significantly affected the balance of power in the new passenger car market. Over eight months of this year, the share of imported used cars in the overall structure of first registrations reached 85%, whereas a year earlier the same indicator was only 54%.
From January to August, 298.5 thousand passenger cars brought from abroad were registered in the country.
