The market situation over the specified period never gained a clear and stable direction. In the first two months, the number of registered cars was lower than the previous year's figures (by 21% and 2%, respectively), although the rate of decline gradually slowed. With the arrival of spring, the dynamics turned positive, but market growth slowed — from 8% in March to 1% in April.
As a result, over four months, the volume of new passenger car registrations in Ukraine failed to catch up with the previous year's level. The shortfall was 3 percent.
Specialists at Ukrautoprom found out which new passenger car models were in greatest demand this year and compared them with the leaders of the same period a year earlier.
According to the results of the first four months of 2019, the best-selling car on the Ukrainian market was the compact crossover Kia Sportage from Kia Motors. Since the beginning of the year, 1,696 such cars have been registered with national plates. Last year, Volkswagen Golf held the top spot in terms of registrations.
The second position was taken by Renault Duster — with 1,644 registrations to its name. A year earlier, Audi A3 was second on the list.
Third place, as last year, went to Toyota RAV-4. This crossover was chosen by 1,177 buyers.
The fourth line of the ranking with 1,084 sold cars was occupied by Renault Logan. In 2018, Renault Duster was in this position.
Fifth place with 769 registrations — Hyundai Tucson. And a year ago, the top five was closed by Toyota Camry, which now sits only in tenth position among the most sought-after models on the Ukrainian new passenger car market.
The remaining places in the top ten were distributed as follows: Skoda Octavia — 760 units; Nissan Qashqai — 694 units; Renault Sandero — 639 units; Nissan X-Trail — 636 units; Toyota Camry — 587 units.
