Mostly, this mass of registrations consisted of former "euro plates" cars, for which preferential customs clearance was in effect at that time. This noticeably affected the age distribution of the primary market for used cars.
Cars manufactured before 2010 accounted for only 20% of the primary second-hand market, while the remaining 80% were older vehicles.
As for which cars Ukrainians prefer when choosing a used foreign car, they most often choose diesel versions. In January, such cars accounted for 71% of primary registrations of imported used cars. At the same time, petrol models took 20%, cars with LPG — about 8%, and electric cars and hybrids accounted for just over one percent.
Obviously, the topic of ecology and health care, which today is the main driver of EU markets, will not soon become a priority for Ukrainians when choosing a car.
Among brands, Volkswagen was the leader in January — 11,144 cars of this German brand changed foreign owners to Ukrainian ones.
Opel was the second most popular: more than 5.5 thousand used cars of this brand were imported and registered in Ukraine over the past month.
The third place was taken by another German brand — Audi with an indicator of 4.5 thousand cars.
Renault (3,701 units) and BMW (3,678 units) also enjoyed consistently high demand.
As for the most popular models among imported second-hand cars, in January they were: Volkswagen Passat — 5,572 units, Volkswagen Golf — 2,656 units, Skoda Octavia — 2,386 units, Audi A6 — 2,267 units, and Opel Zafira — 2,136 units.
