For comparison, in the first three months of 2018, Ukraine spent currency equivalent to 12.6 billion US dollars on the purchase of imported goods. This exceeded export revenues for the same period by 1.2 billion dollars. Thus, the purchase of cars accounted for more than 5% of all currency expenditures on the import of goods.

The bulk of automobile imports consisted of passenger cars — 41,522 units were brought in. Compared to the first quarter of 2017, the volume of passenger car imports grew by 43%, and their total customs value reached 459.3 million dollars.

It is important to note that 57% of passenger cars imported from January to March of this year were used. Foreign owners earned a total of more than 128 million dollars from the sale of these cars to Ukrainians.

Germany was the largest supplier of foreign passenger cars to Ukraine: 8,120 cars worth 81.3 million dollars arrived from there. Of this number, the vast majority — 7,171 cars — were already used.

From the United States, 4,843 passenger cars worth 58.5 million dollars were imported over three months, with almost all of them (4,177 units) being used.

Japan took third place in terms of passenger car supply volume: 3,891 cars worth 67.6 million dollars. At the same time, two-thirds of Japanese imports were new cars.

France was in fourth position with a result of 3,838 passenger cars, for which 17.3 million dollars were paid. More than 93% of French automobile imports were second-hand.

Mexico rounds out the top five leading importing countries: 2,533 passenger cars, valued by customs at 19.7 million dollars, were delivered to Ukraine from there. The majority of cars from Mexico (63%) had zero mileage.
