In addition to overpasses, the dam of the Kyiv Hydroelectric Station and a number of other strategic facilities have also been placed under armed guard. Those passing by checkpoints have surely noticed a large number of military personnel in camouflage uniforms.
According to the authorities, such measures are nothing more than a precaution, and there is no talk of preparing terrorist acts. Maintaining order and preventing possible unforeseen situations has been entrusted to traffic police officers, militiamen armed with submachine guns, and National Guard fighters (in some places they are on duty together with service dogs). Representatives of volunteer battalions are also encountered.
Pedestrians should take into account: they may also be stopped for checks, for example, when crossing a bridge. Foot patrols have appeared on Kyiv bridges, sometimes in body armor and with weapons. They have the right to ask to see documents, so it is better to always carry them with you.
