According to these documents, the patrol police service will take over the State Automobile Inspectorate's (GAI) powers to ensure road traffic safety.

An experiment to merge the patrol police service and the State Automobile Inspectorate has been launched in the city of Khmelnytskyi. The main task of the new service remains the same - maintaining public order in the city.

Today, Khmelnytskyi is the only city in Ukraine where the GAI and the patrol service have been merged. The experiment will last until February 28, 2015.

As reported by the head of the State Automobile Inspectorate of Ukraine, Anatoliy Sirenko: "It is planned that one vehicle of the unified patrol service will contain one GAI officer and two patrol service officers. This will be a crew of three police officers who will be responsible for a corresponding area in the city and will be stationed at a designated place of service."

The police leadership believes that the merger of services will speed up response to incidents. This is due to the fact that the fleet of the unified service will receive a larger number of vehicles.
