With a high degree of probability, the technical inspection will be returned in 2017. This was stated by the Deputy Head of the Department of the State Automobile Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, Vladyslav Kryklii. On his Facebook page, he wrote that the Ministry of Internal Affairs is preparing for the return of mandatory technical inspection for private vehicles, in accordance with Ukraine's obligations in agreements with the EU. The technical inspection is provided for by EU Directive 40/2009.

According to the Deputy Head of the Department, the technical inspection will no longer be the same as before. "Turning the technical inspection into a goldmine for trading cardboard 'papers' without any real examination of the vehicle's technical condition and without anyone's responsibility. This will not happen!" writes Kryklii.

Currently, discussions are underway on what form the technical inspection will return in. One of the options, proposed by the head of the Ukrainian Association of Automobile Importers and Dealers, Oleh Nazarenko, involves undergoing the usual maintenance at certified stations with an additional set of diagnostics, after which the car owner receives a certificate of passing the mandatory technical inspection of the vehicle.
