The developers presented a prototype with six electric motors that can be used both as an air taxi and for cargo transportation.
The vehicle is designed for five passengers and can cover a distance of up to 800 kilometers. The maximum speed of the EVTOL exceeds 400 km/h. The special design of the propellers allows the aircraft to perform vertical takeoff and landing. According to plans, the first test flights should start in 2020.
In addition, Rolls-Royce is involved in the development of another pilotless flying vehicle, which Aston Martin is working on. This unusual transport, named Volante Vision Concept, is equipped with three passenger seats. The propellers, which can rotate, provide it with vertical takeoff and landing. The first working prototype of the Volante Vision Concept is expected to appear in 2020.
The project is led by Aston Martin's chief designer Marek Reichman. He notes that the Volante Vision Concept will demonstrate what the "new generation of urban transport" could be. The company states that the vehicle will be equipped with a hybrid power plant. Other technical parameters of the Volante Vision Concept have not yet been disclosed.
