Volvo will give 100 self-driving versions of the XC90 crossover for test trials to ordinary Swedish families.
As part of the Drive Me initiative, the first self-driving cars have already been handed over to two families living in Gothenburg.
According to the test conditions, a person must be present behind the wheel, but the crossover is capable of moving without their involvement. The autonomous XC90s will be tested both on suburban highways and in dense urban traffic.
Volvo plans to launch a production car with full autopilot by 2021.
