The new road surface is planned to be assembled from special blocks made of recycled plastic. According to the developers, such modules will be comparable in strength to traditional asphalt.
Due to the hollow design of the blocks, utility networks can be placed inside them — from communication cables to drainage systems and pipelines. The lightweight material also simplifies delivery, installation, and subsequent maintenance of the surface. When the road reaches the end of its service life, its elements can be recycled again.
The project authors promise to present test samples by the end of 2017.
