Specialists from the California agency CARB, responsible for air quality control, found software in cars that changed the operation algorithm of the automatic transmission during measurements. This allowed a significant reduction in the amount of harmful substances in the exhaust. This function was activated when the steering wheel remained in a neutral position, and when it was turned more than 15 degrees, the mode was disabled.
As German journalists found out, back in May of this year, Audi refused to use such software in its transmissions. Official company representatives have not yet commented on the detected violations. If the facts are confirmed, the automaker will have to organize a large-scale recall of cars, including models A6, A8, and Q5 with such "smart" gearboxes.
