Sensors and various special equipment will be installed on the road section, allowing cars with autopilots to exchange information with each other and road infrastructure objects. There is no information yet on how much money will be spent on the project and when it will be launched. But presumably, self-driving cars will hit German autobahns by the end of the year.

It is worth noting that German automakers have long been working on creating cars with autonomous control systems. Audi, for example, taught its A7 to drive independently around the Hockenheimring race track. It also tested the system on public roads in the US.

Since April 2013, Volvo has been testing cars with autopilots. Since January 2015, self-driving cars have been allowed to travel on public roads in the UK.
