As reported by Nissan, several merger options were considered during the negotiations. At the first stage, the discussion involved creating a joint structure where both companies would have equal opportunities. However, Honda later proposed its own format, under which it would act as the parent company of the alliance. Nissan rejected this scenario, which led to the suspension of the dialogue.
Despite the merger not taking place, the partnership between the automakers remains. Honda emphasized that joint projects with Nissan in the field of electric vehicles and intelligent control systems will continue.
Earlier it was reported that Nissan and Honda intended to form a large alliance that could rank third among global car companies in terms of production volume. Mitsubishi Motors, 34% of whose shares are owned by Nissan, was also planned to be included in this merger.
