In South Korea, unlike in most other countries, gas-powered cars are very popular. Gas cylinder equipment for the local market is developed and calibrated directly by automakers (KIA, Hyundai, and others), and installation and tuning are performed right on the factory assembly line. This means the manufacturer takes responsibility for the reliable and long-term operation of both the gas system itself and the engine and fuel equipment as a whole.
When buying a gas-powered car in Korea, you should remember its main feature — there is no backup gasoline fuel system here. Korean engineers have focused on creating engines with direct injection of the gas mixture.
Cars from Korea are equipped with LPi systems, where liquefied gas is supplied directly to the intake manifold, bypassing the evaporation stage. The fuel mixture is tuned to burn as efficiently as possible, and the octane rating of such gas is higher than that of gasoline.
Korean companies — Hyundai, Kia, Renault-Samsung, and GM-Daewoo — have been producing cars with LPG equipment for over two decades and are constantly refining their developments. Recently, fifth-generation LPi systems have been installed on cars. Here are their key advantages:
1. The engine starts without problems in any weather and under any circumstances.
2. The gas evaporates completely, so spark plugs do not get flooded even in severe frost — unlike gasoline, gas does not spread but evaporates.
3. Gas combustion is slower than gasoline, which reduces the load on the piston group and makes the engine run smoother and quieter.
4. The engine's service life increases because the gas mixture does not clog the engine. System reliability is ensured by multi-stage filtration: the fuel is cleaned of mechanical particles, resins, moisture, and other impurities through filters of various types.
5. In terms of safety, the fifth-generation LPi system surpasses the gasoline system: the gas cylinder is structurally much stronger than a regular fuel tank, and the kit includes multi-level protection against excess pressure and leaks.
6. The LPi system fully replicates the logic of a gasoline injector. Liquid gas injection completely replaces gasoline and makes its use unnecessary.
7. Gas cylinders are equipped with several protection systems:
- leak protection: a special valve prevents gas from escaping;
- overfill protection: a multivalve limits filling to 85% of the cylinder volume;
- damage protection: if the cylinder is deformed and pressure changes, the valve releases excess gas into ventilation outside the car;
- there is an option to manually vent the gas through a valve.
It is worth noting that any popular Korean model can be ordered to individual requirements.
In addition to gas equipment, buying a car in Korea has other advantages:
• Korean cars are in excellent condition and do not require restoration — the buyer gets a complete car ready for use;
• the service is significantly cheaper than ordering a car from the USA;
• a wide selection of models of different classes and body types is available, as well as all types of engines (unlike the USA, diesels, gasoline engines, LPG, and hybrids are in demand in Korea);
• high quality of cars — the Korean auto industry is famous for the optimal price-quality ratio;
• savings when purchasing range from 20% to 40% compared to buying a similar car in Ukraine.
