On October 6, 2018, the 8th annual eco-action “Bought a car? Plant a tree!” took place in Kyiv, organized by Toyota-Ukraine and the international charity fund “Ukraine! I am for you!”. More than 100 activists – partners and clients of the company, as well as its employees with families – planted 110 trees and 168 other plants and flowers in the Obolon district of the capital within 2.5 hours. Thus, Toyota-Ukraine continues the good tradition of the global Toyota brand campaign to green the planet.

Every year the action “Bought a car? Plant a tree!” gains more and more popularity. So, this year, not only employees of Toyota-Ukraine joined the environmental activity, but also their family members, clients of Toyota dealer centers, and other city residents who want to see its streets green and blooming.

“For many years in a row, Kyiv was considered the greenest city in Ukraine. However, with the expansion of infrastructure, there are more buildings, and cases of tree cutting to free up territories for new structures are becoming more frequent. Our capital is no longer as green and picturesque as it once was. Now there is less space for outdoor recreation and walks with children. Therefore, having heard about the Toyota action, I gladly joined it and even invited my family to participate. I believe this is a very noble and worthy initiative, because we are building the atmosphere around us with our own hands and reviving the natural beauty of the city we live in,” says Serhiy, a participant of the action.

The participants of the action expanded the Japanese garden located opposite the Toyota City Plaza showroom at 24-B, Banderiv Avenue. After the completion of today's action, 110 new trees appeared here, including juniper, sumac, and catalpa. The latter plant is very common in Japan, the homeland of the Toyota brand, and is also known by another name – “the tree of happiness”.

“It is incredible that a real Japanese garden with its picturesque designer landscape has appeared in the middle of our city. My family and I go there for a walk, as if to another, distant country, where there are completely different trees and a new incredible atmosphere. And even more wonderful is that we ourselves helped create this green space. It is great that it was the company I work for that initiated such a project and made its implementation possible,” comments Roman, an employee of Toyota-Ukraine.

Interestingly, until 2011, there was a wasteland on the site of this beautiful garden. And now a real green oasis of exotic trees has blossomed here. In total, Toyota-Ukraine has planted more than 4,000 trees.

Such changes not only please the eye with their beauty, but also improve the ecological state of the environment, fulfilling the main goal of the global Toyota action. After all, green plants release oxygen into the atmosphere, absorbing CO2. At the same time, the project introduces all visitors of the garden to Japanese culture, providing an opportunity to relax in the shade of a natural atmosphere unusual for the Ukrainian landscape.

Let us remind you that Toyota-Ukraine has a certificate of the environmental management system in accordance with the international standard ISO 14001:2015, which emphasizes the company's respectful attitude towards the environment. Toyota Motor Corporation initiates the planting of trees and shrubs in various countries around the world and pays great attention to environmental protection issues, especially in those regions where the company's production facilities are located.
