Every year, the Isle of Man, located in the Irish Sea, becomes a magnet for fans of speed and adrenaline. Spectators flock here to watch the daring motorcycle racers who temporarily fill the entire island with their unique energy.
The Isle of Man TT races, also known as the Tourist Trophy, are considered among the most prestigious and spectacular motorcycle races on the planet. This event has both devoted fans and fierce critics: some locals deliberately leave the island during the races, making way for guests and giving them the opportunity to fully enjoy the celebration.
The history of the Isle of Man TT spans 110 years. For 27 years, these competitions were part of the World Championship in road racing. In the 70s of the last century, the race became an integral part of the TT Formula, and over the last three decades, the event has been held as an independent sporting event under the patronage of the Isle of Man Department of Tourism.
The 2017 races, as usual, took place in late May – early June. Every year, the Isle of Man TT attracts a large number of both professional bikers and brave amateurs. This year was no exception. Such competitions attract not only talented participants but also serious sponsors. Among them are manufacturers of energy drinks, motor oils, and even major automobile concerns. One of the sponsors was a large card game operator licensed by the Isle of Man, which has supported the TT for many years and consistently holds the top spot in the list of partners.
Speaking of the participants of the Isle of Man TT 2017, one cannot fail to note the absence of John McGuinness, who for many years was the main star and set the best times. The racer suffered serious injuries at previous competitions – fractures of the ribs, leg, and vertebrae kept him bedridden for a long time.
However, the race was not left without bright riders. The no less famous Guy Martin took part in the competition, who himself was recovering from an injury. It was planned that he would compete alongside McGuinness, but due to the latter's absence, the motorcycle racing star demonstrated his skill in a solo run. Also taking to the track were such renowned bikers as Michael Dunlop, Ian Hutchinson, Bruce Anstey, and Peter Hickman.
It was also interesting to watch the technical side of the competition. Newcomers – the Honda Fireblade and Suzuki GSX-R1000 – boldly competed with the recognized favorites, the Kawasaki ZX-10R and BMW S1000RR. On the track this year, one could also see the rare Norton SG6 ridden by Josh Brookes. Bruce Anstey, in turn, delighted spectators on the Honda RC213V-S, which had already participated in races a year earlier.
The competition program opened with the Superbike class race and concluded with the most prestigious event – the Senior TT. In total, during the event, competitions were held in seven classes: Superbike, Supersport, Superstock, Lightweight, Zero, Sidecar, and Senior TT. In each of the races, participants gave their all, as eloquently evidenced by photos and videos that were actively spread on social media. The racers received unforgettable emotions and a powerful charge of adrenaline, which they immediately shared with fans around the world.
