The project is at an early stage of development. The appearance of the production version of the XAV may still change significantly, but the faceted body, the main design feature, will be preserved.

The production XAV will be built on an extended platform of the production crossover Tivoli, which debuted in 2014. The length of the new model will be 4400 millimeters.

The engine lineup will include gasoline and diesel engines (power not specified), as well as possibly a hybrid powertrain from the XAV. In the concept, it consisted of a 1.6-liter gasoline engine transmitting torque to the rear axle, an electric motor responsible for rotating the front wheels, and a set of lithium-ion batteries.

The production version of the SsangYong XAV will go on sale no earlier than 2019. In addition, in 2017 the Korean brand will release a new generation Rexton SUV, in 2018 a new Korando Sports (Actyon) pickup will debut. Also in 2019, after the premiere of the production XAV, a new generation Korando (Actyon) will hit the market, which will be built on the extended Tivoli platform.
