As part of the initiative of the state structure Innovate, a series of track days will be organized, participation in which is available both to professional engineers and self-taught enthusiasts. The events are scheduled at the Bruntingthorpe proving ground, located in Leicestershire.
Developers will have the opportunity to test their projects in a safe environment, avoiding the risks associated with driving on public roads or private property. Later, similar events will be organized in France and Austria. “The development of autonomous vehicles is a relatively new field that combines mechanics, electrical engineering, and programming. We hope that our program will allow engineers to gain valuable experience and accelerate progress in their developments,” commented Alex Lawrence-Berkeley, one of the founders of Innovate.
Recall that earlier Jaguar Land Rover announced plans to conduct large-scale tests of vehicles with autonomous control systems in 2016. About a hundred vehicles will be tested in normal road traffic conditions.
