The diesel scandal was the reason for this decision. According to the company's calculations, this will save 1.9 billion euros.
"We in the works council have long pointed out the excessively wide range of modifications and the large number of various components," say representatives of the manufacturer's trade union. "All this significantly complicates work and leads to considerable expenses, for example, in the field of logistics. We will be able to noticeably reduce costs in this area without having to lay off employees."
It is worth noting that before the scandal, the German company invested a lot of effort and money in ensuring that even a mid-range car buyer could customize it to their preferences. It was precisely this variety that caused the significant difference in price between the base version and the fully equipped one.
