Kia showed the Niro concept car back in 2013, presenting its vision of a compact crossover. Obviously, many of those solutions will soon appear on the production version. The new SUV will feature elements already familiar from other models: the "tiger nose" grille, rectangular sections of daytime running lights, and widened wheel arches in the "muscle" style.

As for powertrains, under the hood there will likely be one of three existing engines used in compact cars: a one-liter turbocharged gasoline engine, a more powerful 1.6-liter turbo unit, and a 1.7-liter diesel option. Two transmissions are planned: a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox and a traditional six-speed manual, which will be installed on front-wheel-drive versions.

According to insider sources, assembly of the new model is planned at the company's plant in Slovakia.
