The reason for this step was the high cost of bioethanol and the increase in fuel prices by 1-2 hryvnias per liter. Instead of pure ethyl alcohol, they also want to allow the use of biocomponents made on its basis.
At the same time, the European Union has already abandoned the mandatory mixing of ethanol with gasoline, leaving car owners to decide for themselves whether to fill up with an alcohol mixture or regular fuel. The practice of diluting fuel with alcohol first began in Latin America, and Europeans became interested in this method in an effort to make exhaust cleaner and reduce prices at gas stations.
Ukrainian enterprises do not yet have sufficient capacity to produce gasoline with alcohol, and importing and storing such fuel from abroad is economically unprofitable. Moreover, such fuel has a limited shelf life — over time it separates and ceases to meet requirements.
According to analysts, it is quite likely that the mandatory use of bioethanol in Ukraine will eventually be canceled.
