Even the American National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) became interested in finding out the circumstances of the fire. The cause of the incidents, as established by specialists, was the battery charger — its adapter overheats and can cause a fire.

Fortunately, the recall concerns exclusively the Tesla Model S of the 2013 model year, of which fewer than 30 thousand units were produced. The manufacturer has already implemented a remote software update that prevents the adapter from overheating, but all faulty cables are still subject to replacement with new ones at no cost to owners.

It is worth noting that demand for the Model S electric car in the States has noticeably outpaced forecast figures, even despite a number of fires involving these cars.
