With the approach of cold weather, the load on the car battery increases noticeably, and an old battery may simply not cope with it. That is why many drivers prefer to take care in advance of replacing a worn-out power source with a fresher and more reliable one.

But stores offer such a variety of models that it is easy to get confused. For those who plan to update the battery but doubt the correctness of their choice, we have prepared several useful recommendations.

Battery characteristics

First of all, it is worth deciding on the appropriate battery capacity for your car. The old battery can serve as a guide: if it had a capacity of 55 Ah and worked properly, you should not install a more powerful model. On the one hand, a larger reserve of ampere-hours makes it easier for the battery to work under load. But on the other hand, the generator will find it difficult to fully restore the charge of such a battery, which is why it will often remain undercharged. This reduces the service life and worsens the technical condition of the device. Therefore, when choosing, you need to take into account the characteristics of a particular car, which are specified in its technical passport.

Types of batteries

The situation with battery types is also not simple — the choice is huge. Ukrainian stores offer models of various types and price categories. Some drivers opt for inexpensive lead-acid batteries, others choose premium maintenance-free AGM batteries, the price difference between which can reach 200–300%. However, some manufacturers offer a more affordable alternative to expensive AGM — calcium batteries.

For example, currently in Ukraine, among calcium models, Centra and Medalist batteries are especially popular. This technology is considered a unique replacement for batteries with absorbed electrolyte. The main difference from classic batteries is the composition of the electrodes: calcium is added to the alloy instead of antimony. This reduces gas formation and evaporation of water from the electrolyte. Thanks to this solution, engineers created reliable, durable, and maintenance-free batteries that cost only 20–30% more than standard domestic lead-acid models.

If the budget is limited, you can take a regular standard battery of domestic production. But then you will have to regularly maintain it: check the electrolyte density and add water. Instead, you can pay a little extra and get a more reliable calcium battery Medalist or Centra. They are produced by leading world companies using modern technologies. Such a battery does not require adding water, lasts significantly longer, and works confidently in frost. Obviously, it has more advantages, and saving on your own car is hardly justified, especially before the winter season.

Centra and Medalist batteries can be purchased in Kyiv from the official distributor — the company "AKB-System". All batteries are covered by the manufacturer's warranty.
