The appearance of a new compact crossover with the XT2 index in the Cadillac SUV lineup has been expected for quite a long time. For example, an application with such a name was filed with the US Patent and Trademark Office back in 2014, but the patent has since expired, and the automaker decided not to renew it. Although it seemed that this model could be written off, in fact, the plans for the XT2 remain in force.
In January, General Motors decided to register a new trademark, but instead of the full name Cadillac XT2, only the XT2 index was chosen. The re-registration of such a name clearly indicates serious intentions to include this model in the Cadillac SUV lineup, which currently features three crossovers — XT4, XT5, and XT6, as well as the full-size SUV Escalade.
