The development of the new car is being handled by the company's Brazilian division. However, the manufacturer does not rule out sales of the model in other markets. The crossover is based on the modular MQB-A0 platform, which is also used for the new generation of the Polo hatchback. The length of the car will remain within 4 meters, and the wheelbase will be 2560 mm. It is expected that the new model will take the entry position in the SUV lineup of the German brand.
The technical parameters of the Nivus are still kept under wraps. According to unofficial information, the range of powertrains will include a 1-liter turbocharged gasoline engine producing 116 horsepower. In addition, a naturally aspirated 1.6-liter engine with an output of 120 horsepower is likely to appear. The engines will be paired with either a five-speed manual gearbox or a six-speed automatic.
The car's premiere in the local market is scheduled for this year, and in Europe the new model may debut in 2021.
