The cars received slight exterior changes, an upgraded audio system, and for the first time became available with a powertrain operating on a "mild hybrid" scheme.

From their predecessors, the new models can be distinguished by different fog lights, a slightly modified spoiler, and an updated bumper. The Volvo V90 and V90 Cross Country have new LED taillights and dynamic turn indicators at the rear.

The "90-series" cars received an improved Bowers & Wilkins audio system with a better amplifier, as well as an upgraded noise cancellation system in antiphase. The interior now has additional USB-C ports, 12-volt outlets in the rear, and a wireless charging station for smartphones.
The engine lineup includes units operating on a mild hybrid scheme — with a starter-generator powered by a 48-volt onboard system.
