With the change of generation, the Octavia did not move to a new platform – as before, the model is based on the MQB architecture. With the same wheelbase (2,868 millimeters), the new car surpasses the pre-restyling model in dimensions: the liftback and wagon have stretched in length by 22 and 19 millimeters respectively and reach 4,689 millimeters, while the width is 1,829 millimeters (+15 millimeters).
The liftback's trunk volume is 600 liters, and the wagon's is 640 liters, compared to the previous 568 and 610 liters respectively.

The engine lineup for the European market will include a 1.5-liter petrol engine with 150 horsepower, a 2.0-liter unit (190 hp), and a 1.0 TSI (110 hp), while the diesel range will be represented by two-liter engines with 150 and 200 hp. Versions with DSG are equipped with a 48-volt starter-generator.
In addition, the Octavia will receive hybrid modifications with a 1.4-liter turbocharged engine and an electric motor (204 or 245 hp) and a gas version with a 1.5 unit (130 hp). All-wheel drive is provided for versions with the 190-hp petrol engine and 150- and 200-hp diesels. The appearance of a "charged" Octavia RS with a 300-hp engine and all-wheel drive is also planned.
Earlier it was reported that sales of the new Octavia on the European market will start in 2020.
