The public premiere of the new models will take place at the Frankfurt Motor Show on September 10. Shortly after the premiere, the cars will go on sale in Europe.

The cars will be offered exclusively with electric powertrains. The electric motor produces 82 horsepower. Acceleration to 100 km/h for the ForTwo with such an engine takes 11.6 seconds. The range is 160 kilometers. The battery can be recharged from a household outlet in 3.5 hours. The top speed is 130 km/h.

The updated Smart features a new radiator grille, different bumpers, and a large lower air intake. The LED headlights consist of three elements, one of which also serves as a turn signal. Another function of the optics is a light greeting when the doors are unlocked.

Inside the Smart, there is a different center console with a large compartment for storing small items and an 8-inch touchscreen display. The driver will also have access to a new-generation infotainment system. Using a smartphone, the driver can check the battery charge, as well as lock and unlock the car. Also, by downloading a special app, the car owner can remotely grant access to the car to other users. This function, however, is currently only available in some European countries.

In March, the Daimler concern and the Chinese company Geely announced the creation of a joint venture with an equal share of assets. Within the framework of the new project, the development and production of next-generation urban electric cars will be organized, which will be produced under the Smart brand.
