Euro NCAP experts awarded the Audi A1 95% for the safety of the driver and adult passengers, 85% for child protection, 73% for pedestrian safety, and 80% for the functioning of electronic assistants. Comments were raised about insufficient protection of the front passenger's chest in a frontal impact. For pedestrians, the main threat is posed by the front pillars. At the same time, experts praised the operation of the lane keeping system.
The Ford Focus also showed results close to the Audi A1. The American hatchback received a slightly higher score for driver and adult passenger protection — 96%, and for child safety — 80%. At the same time, scores for electronic systems and pedestrian protection were lower: 75% and 72%, respectively.
The Mercedes-Benz CLA earned 96% for adult safety, 91% for children, 91% for pedestrians, and 75% for electronics. The model successfully passed almost all tests, but experts identified a likelihood of chest injuries in a frontal collision with a deformable barrier.
The Mercedes-Benz EQC also received the maximum rating. The electric crossover scored 96% for adult protection, 90% for children, 75% for other road users, and 75% for electronic assistants. In a frontal impact, there is a risk of damage to the passenger's chest. Experts highly rated the operation of most assistance systems, but the effectiveness of the lane keeping function was deemed unsatisfactory.
The only convertible in the tests — the BMW Z4 — was awarded the maximum five stars. The high result was ensured by reliable protection of the driver and passengers (97%). However, experts noted a slight risk of chest injury to the driver in a frontal impact. For child safety, the German model received 87% of possible points. Electronic safety systems were rated at 76%, and pedestrian protection at 91%.
The Skoda Kamiq earned 96% for adult safety, 85% for children, 80% for other road users, and 76% for electronic assistants. Specialists were satisfied with the operation of almost all systems, but recognized the low effectiveness of the adaptive cruise control.
The SsangYong Korando also received five stars based on crash test results. However, its results were somewhat more modest than those of other participants. For driver and adult passenger protection, the crossover scored 88%, for child safety — 85%. Electronic systems and pedestrian protection were rated at 74% and 68%, respectively.
