The premiere of the Porsche Taycan took place simultaneously in North America, China, and Europe. The company emphasized that these three markets would be the most important for the model.

The production Porsche Taycan differs little in appearance from the Mission E concept presented in 2016 at the Paris Motor Show. However, the production car received standard rear doors instead of rear-hinged ones, acquired a slightly modified aerodynamic body kit, and instead of an external rear-view camera, it got traditional side mirrors. In addition, the "four-door sports sedan," as the company calls it, shows similarities with the new generation 911 family. The drag coefficient is 0.22.

Porsche noted that the Taycan became the world's first production electric car with an 800-volt onboard system, while other similar vehicles use a 400-volt scheme. The new model is equipped with two electric motors (on the front and rear axles), which provide all-wheel drive and are combined with a special two-speed gearbox. The first gear is designed to provide maximum acceleration at launch, while the second "long" gear serves to "preserve power reserves."

At launch, the Porsche Taycan is presented in two top modifications - Turbo and Turbo S. The units of the latter, when the Launch Control fast start function is activated in Overboost mode, produce 761 horsepower (560 kilowatts). Such a car can accelerate to 100 km/h in 2.8 seconds. For example, the same time is required for the "Nürburgring" record holder Lamborghini Aventador SVJ to accelerate to 100 km/h. The total power of the Turbo version's motors is 680 hp (500 kW), which allows the electric car to accelerate from standstill to 100 km/h in 3.2 seconds. The maximum speed of both modifications is 260 km/h.

A special fast charging system allows accumulating enough energy in just five minutes to travel up to 100 kilometers. From 5% to 80% under ideal conditions, the battery capacity of 93.4 kWh can be replenished in 22.5 minutes. In addition, the batteries can be recharged at home from an alternating current source. The range is 450 km for the Turbo S version and 412 km for the Turbo variant.

The Porsche Taycan received a fully digital instrument panel, as well as a central 10.9-inch touchscreen display for the infotainment system. Another optional monitor is intended for the front passenger. The number of buttons and mechanical switches is minimized - most functions can be controlled via touch surfaces, as well as voice control that responds to the command "Hey, Porsche."

The electric car is equipped with the proprietary PASM damper adjustment system, adaptive air suspension with three chambers, traction control function, as well as an active electromechanical system for suppressing body roll. The driver has access to four driving modes: Range, Normal, Sport, and Sport Plus. In addition, the Individual mode provides access to individual settings of various systems.
