The British manufacturer timed these tests to coincide with an anniversary date — 65 years of Land Rover's partnership with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), which is engaged in humanitarian missions.

Prior to this, prototypes of the new Defender had already worked in Kenya, Africa, traversed routes in the Rocky Mountains in Colorado at altitudes above 3,000 meters, and also underwent testing beyond the Arctic Circle. The temperature range in which the tests were conducted ranged from minus 40 to plus 50 degrees Celsius. In total, specialists performed more than 45,000 individual tests, and the total mileage of all vehicles exceeded 1.2 million kilometers.
