Porsche's electric coupe has already been tested on the track by Li Chao, a Chinese driver competing in the Asian Carrera Cup touring car series. According to him, the chassis of the new Taycan offers great potential: it provides both sporty steering precision and the softness expected from a sedan during long journeys. The low center of gravity and rear-wheel steering are key. "The car enters corners with extreme precision and holds the track excellently," the driver noted.

The Porsche Taycan will be equipped with a pair of electric motors — one on each axle. These units are similar to those used on the Porsche 919 Hybrid prototype. The total power output of the powertrain reaches 600 horsepower, and power is supplied by an 800-volt onboard electrical system.

The Taycan accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 3.5 seconds, and reaching 200 km/h takes no more than 12 seconds. The electric car's top speed exceeds 250 km/h.

On the upcoming weekend, the Taycan prototype, driven by former Formula 1 driver Mark Webber, will compete in the hill climb events at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. After that, the car will be shown in New York at the final round of the Formula E racing series. The public premiere of the production version is scheduled for September at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
