The unit is based on a three-liter flat-six, which is used in the new-generation 911 family. In particular, the engine inherited the function of deactivating two cylinders under low loads, a variable valve timing system, as well as piezoelectric injectors.

The engine, capable of revving up to 8000 rpm, produces 420 hp and 420 N·m of torque (available in the range from 5000 to 6800 rpm). The unit works exclusively with a six-speed manual gearbox.

The Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 coupe and 718 Boxster Spyder roadster are capable of accelerating to 100 km/h in 4.4 seconds. The top speed of the coupe is 304 km/h, while the heavier open-top car is 3 km/h slower. The company noted that the new model laps the Nürburgring's Nordschleife about 10 seconds faster than its predecessor.

The new models feature refined aerodynamic bodywork that generates 50% more downforce than the predecessor, 20-inch aluminum wheels, a mechanical self-locking differential, and suspension with active dampers. Carbon-ceramic brake mechanisms are available for an additional cost.
In the US, prices for the coupe start at $96,300, while the roadster will cost at least $99,200. The first cars will reach customers in spring 2020.
