Head of Audi design department Marc Lichte said that the AI:ME concept car demonstrates how the brand sees the development of its electric vehicles over the next 10-15 years. The prototype will get an electric powertrain and a level four autopilot. This implies that the car is capable of moving almost without human intervention, but the driver can still take control at any moment.
Also at the Shanghai auto show, an extended modification of the Q2 e-tron electric crossover will be shown, which is planned to be sold only in China. This version will be 33 mm longer than the base one. Under the hood, it will have an electric motor with a power of 100 kW (136 hp) and a torque of 290 N·m. A battery with a capacity of 38 kWh will provide a range of up to 265 km without recharging.
Production of this electric crossover will begin in China in early 2020 at the facilities of the Audi and FAW joint venture. Later, other electric cars of the German brand will also be assembled on the same line.
